JAZZ ACADEMY EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

WHO ARE WE?

The Jazz Academy, formally know as 'The Junior Jazz Band', is a supportive platform that younger members of Bodmin College can join on route to the 'Senior Orchestra'. Not only does the Jazz Academy allow Bodmin College students to join, it also invites year 5 & 6 students from local primary schools to join to help create a fluent entry point to the Jazz Orchestra.

The Jazz Academy band play at annual Summer, Christmas and Easter Jazz Cafes in support of the Jazz Orchestra - they play a short set which helps their skills adapt and progress in preparation for the Jazz Orchestra.

The Jazz Academy is led by a team of 'Music Maestros' - students at the college which specialise in certain sections of the band (woodwind & percussion for example). Not only do the music maestros help to guide the band but they also lead their specialised section through 'sectionals' - this is when the band splits up into sections every rehearsal to work on certain pieces and sections. In addition to the music maestros, Mr Vincent - head of music at Bodmin College and the Jazz Orchestra conductor - leads the Jazz Academy which allows 'up and coming' musicians to have a taste of what the Jazz Orchestra has to offer.
